I always cook a Sunday lunch, except now the oven doesn't work and I refuse to buy another when i'm not going to be living in the house.
I use the hob and the microwave and although a micro'd chicken doesn't taste quite the same as an oven roasted one, it's not too bad.
Considering how much I bake, the oven not working as come as a bit of a loss. However I can use the breadmaker to bake bread and cakes and the microwave is fairly adaptable. We will feel the loss at Christmas. I'm going to have to buy alot of the food I usually make. Ah well.
Today Ruby, Jim and I went to a friends house and had a brilliant Sunday lunch. Not just because it was cooked in an oven, but because I didn't have to cook it!

I think i've got Christmas lunch sorted. Pudding, chicken and stuffing in micro,(not at the same time of course)ham boiled in cola in a large pan on the hob, roast potatoes in the deep fryer.

My niece recently served me chicken stewed in coke with garlic, which was surprisingly good. How does the ham in cola work?

I saw Nigella Lawson cooking ham by boiling it in coke. I think she said it was a Southern American recipe.
Usually we would maybe boil a ham to remove some of the salt and then slap it in the oven with honey and mustard and maybe some cloves stamped into the skin. Chances are it will be dry though.
To cook with cola, remove the skin from the ham (all in one piece)and boil replacing the water for cola. I use a local supermarkets own cheap brand. When the ham is cooked replace the skin by using string and put it in the oven until the skin is nice and crispy. The ham should be extremely succulent and have a nice slightly sweet taste. -

oo I'm taking that cola ham recipe! Gonna try it this weekend...
as for the oven not working, why not try and ask a neighbour if you can use theirs? =P -

That is another option. However I don't really want to spend time at a neighbours cooking when I would rather be at home with the kids. Besides I expect their ovens will be in full use.
I think the proper recipe for the ham is in Nigella's first book. Easily available from your local library. Good luck with trying it.

I was once in your position at Christmas and cooked a turkey in a weber bbq. It only took about six hours.
